Windows 11 - System Requirements

Check if your PC meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 11.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Before installing Windows 11, it’s important to confirm that your PC meets the minimum system requirements.

Follow this guide to easily check compatibility and identify any issues before upgrading.

Step 1: Use Microsoft’s PC Health Check Tool

The fastest and most accurate way to verify if your PC is ready for Windows 11.

  1. Download and install the tool.

  2. Open the app and click “Check now.”

  3. You’ll instantly see a message showing whether your device meets the Windows 11 requirements.

If your PC doesn’t meet the requirements, the tool will explain which specific part (like processor, TPM, or Secure Boot) needs attention.

Step 2: Manually Verify System Specifications

If you prefer to check manually, here’s how to confirm each key requirement.

Processor and RAM

  1. Press Windows + R on your keyboard.

  2. Type msinfo32 and hit Enter.

  3. In the System Information window:

    • Check Processor — it should be 1 GHz or faster, with 2 or more cores on a 64-bit CPU or SoC.

    • Check Installed Physical Memory (RAM) — you need 4 GB or more.

Step 3: Check Storage Capacity

  1. Press Windows + E to open File Explorer.

  2. Click This PC.

  3. Under “Devices and drives,” make sure you have at least 64 GB of free space available on your main drive (C:).

If not, consider deleting unused files or expanding storage before the upgrade.

Step 4: Verify Secure Boot and UEFI Firmware

  1. Press Windows + R, type msinfo32, and hit Enter.

  2. Look for:

    • BIOS Mode: Should be UEFI.

    • Secure Boot State: Should show On.

If Secure Boot is off, you can enable it in your PC’s BIOS settings. Search online for your manufacturer’s guide (e.g., Dell, HP, ASUS).

Step 5: Check TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 2.0

  1. Press Windows + R, type tpm.msc, and hit Enter.

  2. In the TPM Management window:

    • If you see “TPM version 2.0,” your device is compatible.

    • If it says “TPM not found” or “disabled,” you might need to enable it from your BIOS settings.

Step 6: Verify Graphics and Display Compatibility

  1. Press Windows + R, type dxdiag, and hit Enter.

  2. In the Display tab, look for:

    • DirectX Version: Must be DirectX 12 or later.

    • WDDM Driver Version: Should be 2.0 or higher.

  3. Your screen should also support HD resolution (720p) or higher and measure 9 inches or more diagonally.

Step 7: Confirm Internet and Account Requirements

To complete Windows 11 setup, you’ll need:

  • An Internet connection to download updates and verify your Microsoft account.

  • A Microsoft account to sign in during setup (required for Windows 11 Home).

Step 8: Run the Compatibility Test Again

Once you’ve confirmed all the above, re-run the PC Health Check Tool to ensure your computer passes all checks.
If any issues remain, the app will specify what needs to be updated or adjusted.
